TODAY WAS
A GOOD DAY
Despite having just débuted, you have probably already heard of Honey Bones Gallery. Maybe you were one of the bazillion punters who flocked to its inaugural opening last Friday in Collingwood, or maybe you’re following one/or more of the 47 amazing artists who ‘came’ together to pop the cherry of this new gallery by shooting a yellow hued jizz all over it’s virgin walls.
Bit much?? Let me explain — ‘Today was A Good Day’ was the first show to be held in this new space on Budd Street in Collingwood. JESWRI, the founder and curator of the exhibition had a simple but strong vision, to host a group show with the intention of lifting your (the punters) spirits. The only requirement he asked of contributing artists was to include the colour yellow in their work.
The results speak for themselves — a beautiful, interesting and happiness evoking collection of works hanging together in harmony. However the success of the show cannot be singularly attributed to one simple brief and a happy primary colour. Nah, it goes a bit deeper you see.
JESWRI has often been quoted as being, “the most hungry person in the room”. This statement rings true to me, party due to a text message I received a few days earlier after he ghosted from an event we were both attending the evening prior.
“YEAH SOMEONE GAVE ME A GUMMY EDIBLE AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FINE. FOUND MYSELF DRIBBLING A REBEL WHOPPER DOWN MY SHIRT AT 9PM”.
He is indeed a hungry dude, for whoppers- yeah, but mostly for creativity. His passion and work ethic is second to none! He and his team have worked tirelessly putting together this show and it shows.
The show consists of 74 very talented artists, all of whom I’m sure would testify to the fact that JESWRI is one of the most hardworking artists working in the industry today— making Honey Bones instantly credible!
Well done Honey Bones! Thanks for having us as a sponno!! We look forward to more radical shows to come!
If you haven’t seen the show, get on down to 50 Budd St, Collingwood and have a gander!!
