VISIT RESERVOIR NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE

Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life, you can barely remember what life was like without them.

Artwork Description: "Fly Home"

"Fly Home" isn't just a mural; it's a statement, a beacon of hope amidst the concrete and brick of housing commission flats that have seen better days. This project, driven by a deep sense of community and purpose, aims to transform the landscape of these flats, marred by shattered windows and neglect, into a canvas of vibrant life and coloUr.

Sponsored by the community house through a hard-won grant, this mural is more than an aesthetic uplift; it's a call to action. It's a visual shout out to the world and the councils, drawing attention to the residents' need for a better quality of life. The intention is clear – to use art as a lever to prompt much-needed renovations and care for these homes.

At the heart of "Fly Home" are parrots, chosen by the tenants themselves. These birds, with their vivid plumage and free spirit, symbolize a connection to distant homelands, to memories and histories that resonate with each person here. The parrots, soaring across the mural, carry with them messages of resilience, of community ties, and of a collective longing for a brighter, more nurturing environment.

This mural is a testament to the power of art in initiating real change. It's about bringing beauty to forgotten places, but more importantly, it's about giving a voice to those who live there. "Fly Home" is an embodiment of hope and a reminder that even the simplest forms of beauty can be a catalyst for transformation."

JESWRI ENGAGEMENT

The JESWRI System

  1. Jolt the Norm: Start by shaking things up. Go out and paint something so unexpected that it makes people stop in their tracks.

  2. Engage with Ridiculous: Your art should make people laugh, question reality, or ideally, both. Conversations about your art is the goal.

  3. Surprise The Audience: Just when they think they've got your style pegged, hit them with something outlandish.

  4. Warp Perceptions: Now that you've got their attention, flip it.

  5. Rally the Confused: As onlookers gather, trying to make sense of your art, engage with them. Tell them tall tales about your creations.

  6. Inspire: Encourage people to think of their own silly, outlandish ideas.

The JESWRI system isn't just about creating art; it's about creating experiences that are as delightful and unexpected as finding a graffiti of a cat playing chess with an octopus. It's about bringing a touch of the absurd and joyous to everyday life.
